About VIHASA

Originally launched in the UK and now delivered globally, VIHASA is grounded in the understanding that personal reflection and inner values are at the heart of sustainable, compassionate healthcare. The programme is not delivered as a lecture or training but facilitated through experiential learning - encouraging dialogue, silence, self-awareness, and group connection.

Facilitators are invited to guide rather than teach, embodying the principles they share and creating space for participants to explore their own insights and understanding.

Your Role as a Facilitator

As outlined in JF’s Good Practice Guidelines, facilitators are encouraged to:
  • Create a safe and respectful learning environment
  • Guide sessions rather than deliver lectures
  • Be familiar with and practise the content themselves
  • Stay neutral and inclusive, honouring diverse perspectives
  • Support participant-led reflection and dialogue
Modules may be delivered as full-day workshops, half-day sessions, or integrated into a wider professional development programme.
Facilitation Guidelines:
• Remember the programme is experiential - guide the program rather than deliver it.
• Be familiar with the material having practised the exercises - draw on your own experiences.
• Create the space and keep it light and allow time at a good pace for sharing in pairs/groups.
• Model VIHASA - have an awareness of your own spirituality and practice - rather than be an experienced teacher.
• Keep the group to the theme. Encourage sharing and deep exploration of the subject.
• Stay neutral and non-judgemental and respectful. Do not play expert but facilitate learning and sharing.
• Ensure everyone and their contribution is heard. Ensure each one speaks at a time without interruption. Avoid personal agendas.
• Be positive, flexible, creative and imaginative in creating solutions.
• Be aware of the group energy, observe group process and be flexible within the overall session structure.
• Start and finish on time.
